The Holdings of the Historical Society as recorded in 2000
Much has been added!
Available at our Archives are some Old Lisbon Post, Lisbon News, The Enterprise, The Lisbon Enterprise, and other local publications. These come in handy for those doing research or when doing genealogy. There are many obituaries in these papers that have not been copied or clipped as yet, which is our custom. A few self-made albums are full of obituaries and are in alphabetical order ready for use. Some of our older newspapers, like the Maine Gazette, etc. have listings of ships coming into port in Bath, and other ports. These also list births, deaths, and marriages in local areas of Maine. The Society has approximately thirty of these old Gazette Newspapers dating in 1820's and 1830's. These also have listings of court records with land deals, etc. Also available are Lisbon Town Reports-1868-1870, 1872-1876, 1881-1884, 1904, 1909, 1911-1915, 1917 to the present day. From 1868-1909 no vitals are listed, but after that date there are listed births, deaths, and marriages with the names and dates of each. This pattern stopped approximately 1950 and most only now list deaths from each year with names and dates of each. Some earlier years only gave total number of vitals, but most were listed with dates, etc. These are a great help in doing family research or history of the town or other.
We have genealogies of the Bowie, Rowe, Cox, Blethen and Foster families. Also information on the Anicetti family and their relationship with Moxie events held in the town of Lisbon. Many other families can be researched with articles or other information available.
